The University of British Columbia (UBC) Continuing Studies and the Digital Analytics Association (DAA) are pleased to announce that both Li Kim Lee and Angel Ha have earned the 2010 Jim Novo Award of Academic Excellence which recognizes the graduate with the highest grade average over all four courses of the UBC Award of Achievement in Web Analytics. This award is generally presented to only one individual, but this year both Li Kim and Angel tied for the highest grade average in the program with 98.5%.

Li Kim Lee"What an honour and pleasant surprise to be announced as one of the recipients of the Jim Novo award this year,” says Ms Lee, who took the online program from her home base in London, England. Adds Ms Ha who lives in Toronto, Canada, “Thank you for the recognition but, most importantly, I enjoyed the program very much.” In addition to their excellent grades, both program graduates share the fact that it was the first time either had taken an online course.

“I was transitioning into my new role as a web analyst at Nature Publishing Group and the program provided me with the fundamentals of web analytics and digital marketing, with much of my knowledge immediately translatable to practice,” recalls Ms Lee. In addition to finding the course content valuable, Ms Lee felt that her online exchanges with fellow students gave her an insight into the passion that others have for analytics. “I also learned about the wide variety of experience and options within the field. A big thank you to the DAA and UBC for establishing the course!" exclaims Ms Lee.

Angel HaMs Ha’s career as a TV ratings analyst was also in transition when she decided to enroll in the UBC Award of Achievement in Web Analytics. “I saw the Internet as gradually dominating the media, so I wanted to explore and expand my skills to analyzing Internet traffic,” she recalls. Ms Ha found the last course in the program, Creating and Managing the Analytic Business Culture, very beneficial as it gave her practical knowledge and insights which, she felt, could not be found in ordinary textbooks.

Raquel Collins, senior program leader with the UBC Award of Achievement in Web Analytics, commends both women for their excellent academic achievement. “They both were very engaged and committed students as demonstrated by their high grades as well as the skills and knowledge they have gained from the program. Both Li Kim and Angel are very deserving of this award.” comments Ms Collins.
