Mentoring
The DAA Mentoring Program reflects DAA's commitment to members and the professional development of analytics professionals.
The purpose of this program is to assist you in improving your professional skills to advance your career. A mentor will support you, cheer you on, provide feedback, and help you define and reach your long-term goals. While you might find that kind of support at your organization, some senior managers don't want to invest in workers they believe will leave the company soon. Also, your direct manager's role is to ensure the team meets company goals so they are not focused on your career journey. Your best opportunity is to seek a third party for mentorship.
This unique career development resource will help you find a mentor that can share their expertise and help you expand your network. With DAA's expansive network of volunteers, your mentor could be in the same city or on the other side of the world!
How it works
The program is available to DAA members as a benefit of membership. We recommend you commit to a six-month relationship with your mentor and meet about once a month during that time. As the mentee, you manage the connection by defining your goals and setting the meeting times and schedule. At the end of your six-month commitment, you will thank your mentor and end the relationship.Goals Setting
Think about different areas of improvement you want to work on with your mentor. Make sure you set SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-Bound).Some examples of goals
- Leadership skill development
- Career planning
- Networking
- Navigating the workplace culture
- Gain visibility for potential promotions
- Problem-solving skills
- Communications skills
